About my music

The picture above is of me at my upright piano in Lubbock Texas in 1971.

I started playing and writing music when I was about 14 years old. Not long after the Beatles came out. I started out playing the guitar. But by the time I was about 17 I started pecking around on the little console piano we had sitting in our living room in Pomona California. I realized I had a pretty good ear for music. I could find the chords of a song pretty fast.

I soon started making up little songs of my own. One of my first songs was "Instant Breakfast". Another couple of very early song I wrote were "To Be Mine" and "Easter Comes But Once a Year". You can find versions of both of these songs under "instrumentals" here on my website.  About the time I went to college in Lubbock Texas I wrote several other songs including "I Fall Down" and my big production song "Let Me Live".

From the very beginning I would take collections of my music and make what I called "albums" out of them. I still have the song list of my very first "album". I called it "Plexiglass".

It wasn't until much later that I started developing my songwriting skills.
