Caricatures

Starting in about 1986 or so, soon after moving from Brenham Texas back to Pomona California, I discovered I had a knack for doing caricatures. I started doing these at Birthday parties and school events. From the mid 80's to about 2008 or so I did quite a bit of caricature work. I didn't need the money but I loved doing it. I would charge $100 a "gig" and work about 4 hours. I drew caricatures for many school functions when I was subbing in the public schools. I drew for a Block Buster Video event, for the US Military (see photo) and at a special event at Disneyland one time.

Some of these are digital (done with a tablet and "mouse pen"). Others are photographs of drawints I did. I liked to do a rough sketch of my subject first using slab of graphite. I would draw a surface instead of a line using the edge of the graphite stick. (Hard grade). Then I would use a dark thick pencil like Prismacolor's "Ebony" pencils to do the line work. I sometimes used black line markers but was actually much better with just the graphite materials.

The drawing below on the right is an example of a caricature done digitally on a tablet. Most of the black and whites below were done in "Flash".
